How to Use a Shampoo Bar: 5 Easy Steps

Switching to a shampoo bar is easier than it looks. A bar is a concentrated, plastic-free way to wash your hair, and once you have the rhythm down it takes about the same time as bottled shampoo.

5 Steps to a Great Shampoo Bar Wash

1
Wet your hair
Soak hair and scalp thoroughly with warm water.
2
Build lather
Rub the bar between wet hands, or glide it over your hair a few times.
3
Massage
Work the lather into your scalp with your fingertips.
4
Rinse well
Rinse until the water runs clear.
5
Let it dry
Store the bar on a draining dish between uses.

Tips for the best results

Focus on the scalp. Put the lather where oil and buildup collect and let it rinse down through the lengths.

Keep the bar dry between washes. A bar sitting in water softens and wears away quickly.

Give it a couple of washes. Some people notice a short adjustment period when switching from liquid shampoo. If your water is hard, you may find a diluted vinegar rinse helpful.
